LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky standout pitcher Scott Green has been tabbed the 21st best prospect in college baseball, Baseball America announced in its latest college top-100 prospects, released Monday.

A Louisville, Ky., native, Green is regarded as one of the top pitchers in the college game. With Cody Satterwhite and Lance Lynn of Ole Miss leading off Southeastern Conference pitchers on the list at No. 15 and No. 19 respectively, Green ranks as the third SEC pitcher on the list at No. 21.

After coming out of high school as a highly touted, highly-coveted product from Male High School, Green stepped into the Wildcat weekend rotation as a freshman and occupied a role as a closer. After undergoing Tommy Johns surgery and redshirting during the 2006 SEC Championship season, Green returned in a limited role in 2007, pitching in nine games, hurling 17 2/3 innings, striking out 20, earning a 3.06 ERA, a 2-0 record and a save.

One of a three UK players named to the Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Watch List (Collin Cowgill and Sawyer Carroll) during the preseason, Green had his breakout opportunity during the summer in leading the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox to the Cape Cod League crown over the summer. While teaming with UK outfielder and Lexington native Collin Cowgill on the Y-D Red Sox, Green had a dominating summer, pitching in nine games, earning a 1.56 ERA, a 3-1 record and a save. In 40 1/3 innings at the Cape, Green struck out 35 and walked only nine.

Green, a 6-foot-8, 245-pound right-handed pitcher, had been previously listed by Baseball America as the 12th best prospect in college baseball, released during the fall. After his breakout performance in the Cape Cod League over the summer, Green was tabbed the sixth-best prospect in the Cape.

With an intimidating presence, a quality multi-pitch mix, and high-velocity arsenal, Green will present opponents significant trouble as a weekend starter for the Wildcats in 2008. Combined with such veteran pitcher like Chris Rusin, Greg Dombrowski, Andrew Albers, Aaron Lovett, Brock Baber and Tommy Warner, UK returns one of the more talented, experienced pitching staff?s in the SEC.

The No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats open its season on Friday, February 22, vs. Xavier in Mobile, Ala. UK will compete in the annual Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile, hosted by the University of South Alabama, before opening up its home slate on February 26 vs. Oakland at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
