MIAMI LAKES, Fla. ? Junior Mallory Blackwelder sits in a tie for third place headed into the final 18 holes of the Qdoba Invitational to lead UK in sixth place after 36 holes of action Monday. Kentucky rounded out scoring in the second round today with a clip of 310 and trail a fifth place finish by just 10 strokes.
Blackwelder entered the clubhouse with an even par 72 in round two at Don Shula?s Golf Resort in Miami Lakes, Fla. The junior has shot a 147 in two rounds of action and leads all UK individual performers.
Freshman Louise Ljungstedt led the Cats on the course with a two-over par 74 on Monday, and followed with a 77 in round two to enter final round of play in a tie for 14th. Senior Elizabeth Dotson is tied for 45th after shooting an 82 in the second round. Sophomore Erica Still and senior Beth Felts sit in a tie for 50th and 54th, respectively. Still fired an 81, while Felts carded an 80.
Sophomore Kristen Vincent, playing as an individual, scored a 76 today heading into the final 18 holes in a tie for 39th. Kentucky trails first-place No. 22 East Carolina by 27 strokes, but trail fifth place San Jose State by just 10 shots. UK has a four-stroke lead over seventh place Kansas.
Of the 12-team field, four of the teams are ranked in the top-50 in the country by Golfweek magazine including No. 23 Virginia. Kentucky and Mississippi State are the only representatives of the Southeastern Conference in the field. Other teams competing are: Coastal Carolina, New Mexico State, South Florida and Southern Mississippi.
