LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The No. 27 Kentucky gymnastics team (1-5 overall, 1-4 SEC) will face the No. 1 Georgia Gym Dogs (6-1, 4-0) Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. ET in Athens, Ga.
Georgia has consistently placed in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the SEC for over 10 years; they are also the 2007 defending national champions. The Gym Dogs return home after a road SEC win at Auburn. The Dogs out did the Tigers 197.125-195.475.
Kentucky last faced the Gym Dogs in 2007 in Lexington, Ky. falling 195.975-193.575.
The Wildcats most recently had their best meet of the season in Fayetteville against the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks, scoring a season high of 195.150. Not only did they hit a team season high, but they also walked away with three titles and multiple career highs. Kentucky?s best event of the night was beam, scoring a team high of 49.125. Sophomores Emily Green and Hillary Ferguson left Fayetteville with 9.900?s on vault and floor, respectively. The young team, nine freshmen and sophomores of 14 total gymnasts, has steadily shown improvement and tenacity.
?After a slow start at Arkansas, they came back like real champs. We are looking forward to going to Georgia and showing everyone what this team is really about,? said Head Coach Mo Mitchell.
Kentucky is currently ranked No. 15 on floor and has held top-20 spots throughout the season.
