Sidelined by Medical Condition
LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Kentucky defensive end Jamil Paris has a medical condition that will require him to give up playing football, Coach Rich Brooks announced Friday.
“I’m very disappointed for Jamil,” Brooks said. “My biggest concern is for Jamil’s health and for him to continue his education.” Paris, a sophomore from Gifford, Fla., remains in school at UK and will be kept on scholarship.
Paris played in 21 games over the last two seasons, including one starting assignment. He totaled 10 tackles, including two quarterback sacks, caused two fumbles, and recovered a fumble.
Paris made big plays in each of UK’s victories in the Music City Bowl. In 2006 vs. Clemson, he caused a fumble, then recovered the loose ball. In 2007 vs. Florida State, he was credited with a 13-yard quarterback sack when he forced an intentional-grounding call.
