Click for full-size image OMAHA, Neb.?Former Kentucky swimmer Jenny Bradford took 21st place overall in the 50-meter freestyle Saturday at the United States Olympic Trials. The Kentucky record holder in the 50-yard free as a collegiate athlete just missed the top-16 qualifying mark for the semi-finals of the event for a spot on the Olympic Team.
Bradford touched the wall in a time of 25.73, nearly equaling her personal-best mark of 25.59 she set in qualifying for the Trials. The former swimmer from Groveport, Ohio, holds the Kentucky records in both sprint freestyle events and is among the top-10 all-time in three other events. She placed in the top-11 in the 50-yard free in three consecutive seasons to end her career at the NCAA Championships. Twice she earned All-America honors in the event with fifth and seventh place finishes.
Heather Bradford notched a tie for 54th in today?s 50-free after coming in with a time of 26.24. Bradford is the UK record holder in the 100-yard butterfly and holds the second spot in both the 50-and 100-free events. She and her sister combined for 26 All-America accolades in their storied careers.
Lara Jackson placed first overall in the preliminaries with a blistering time of 24.50.
Today?s events wrap up competition for Kentucky athletes at the Olympic Trials. The Wildcats had an impressive showing in the hotly contested competition. Nine swimmers associated with the Blue and White took part in the races with former swimmer Will Vietti etching the best finish with a top-16 performance in the 100-breast on the first day of competition.
