CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. ? Two University of Kentucky women?s golfers have been named National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar recipients for the 2007-08 season. Rising senior Mallory Blackwelder and former player Beth Felts were among 402 award winners for the season.

The NGCA recognized 402 athletes from Division I, II, and III with the prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all collegiate athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent of the college?s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Felts continually showed her academic abilities throughout her career. She became Kentucky?s first women?s golf recipient of the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2007 and also was a co-winner of the ?CATSPY? award for Female Academic Athlete of the Year in 2008. Additionally, she has earned All-SEC Academic Team honors in each of her four seasons. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native concluded her career having appeared on the starting roster for the SEC Championships in all four seasons of eligibility. Felts ended her career among the top-10 for rounds played in a career.

Blackwelder enjoyed arguably one of the best seasons in UK women?s golf history. The senior-to-be concluded her first season in the Blue and White with the lowest scoring average in school history for a season while notching three top-10 finishes. Blackwelder also appeared as an individual in the NCAA Regional Championships. Blackwelder is a three-time member of SEC Academic teams.
