Sylvania, Ohio ? Rising senior women?s golfer Mallory Blackwelder qualified Wednesday for the LPGA Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic at the Highland Meadows Golf Club. This marks the second professional event for Blackwelder in four months as she made her debut in the Kraft Nabisco Championship in early April where she made the cut and finished tied for 68th.

Blackwelder, playing as an amateur, will tee off Thursday in the final grouping with Katie Futcher and Emily Bastel in the 2:05 group.

The Jamie Farr event began in 1984 and was voted the fifth most popular event on the tour by its players. The course is a par 71 and has a distance of 5,816 yards. Se Ri Pak is the defending champion and is among the field in this week?s competition. The event is played over the course of four days, with cuts being made Friday for weekend play.

Blackwelder has enjoyed an impressive year. In the summer of 2007, she won the 107th Women?s Western Golf Association National Amateur Championship with a 5 and 4 victory in the 36-hole final. She went on to pace the Wildcats in her junior season finishing with three top-10 finishes and leading the team in scoring in all but one event she played. Additionally, Blackwelder concluded the season holding UK?s single-season scoring record as she averaged just 75.34 strokes per round.

Hurwitch qualifies for Women?s Amateur Championship

Incoming player Sara Hurwitch qualified for the United States Women?s Amateur Championship Monday, qualifying in the state of Maryland. The Amateur Championship is slated for Aug. 4-10 in Eugene, Ore.
