LEXINGTON, Ky.?A 45-foot birdie on the 15th hole helped propel University of Kentucky incoming freshman Ashlee Rose to the 63rd Marion Miley tournament title at the Lexington Country Club.

Rose who entered the final day with a two-shot lead struggled on the front nine, shooting a five-over par on the first nine holes. Her lead slipped after a double bogey on seven and back-to-back bogeys on eight and nine.

But, things were just getting started.

Rose fired back with a three-under on the back nine including a 45-foot uphill birdie on the 15th. The birdie gave UK?s incoming freshman sole possession of the lead which she would never relinquish the rest of the way.

Defending champion Pam duPont and Lindsay Gahm, comprised the final grouping, and all three players held the lead at some point through the final 18 holes.

Rose claimed the tournament with a three-over par two-day score of 73-74-147, which was a shot better than the 16-year-old Gahm and two-shots better than the 47-year-old duPont.

It was just Rose?s second time playing in the Marion Miley tournament. She will appear in the Kentucky Women?s Open next week at Spring Valley Golf Club before coming to Kentucky in the fall.
