Lexington, Ky. – Stepping into her second year at the helm of the Wildcat women’s golf team, head coach Myra Blackwelder released the schedule for the 2008-09 season Friday morning.
Kentucky faces tough competition in the upcoming season with five tournaments taking place at top-25 institutions. UK has also added five new tournaments to an increasingly competitive schedule.
The Blue and White will begin the fall in Denver, Colo., at the Ron Moore Invitational hosted by No. 8 University of Denver on Sept. 22-24. Kentucky will return to the east coast to participate in a more familiar tournament, the Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Cats will complete fall tournament play with two conference opponents, starting with the University of Tennessee on Oct. 10-12 at the Mercedes Benz Invitational. UK ends its fall slate at the Derby Invitational in Auburn, Ala., at No. 11 Auburn University on Oct. 24-26.
Kentucky springs back into action at the College of Charleston’s Cuthbert Cup in Kiawah Island, S.C., in late February.
A string of SEC tournaments will cap off the regular season for the Cats. A trip to the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., takes place on March 13-15 followed by the No. 9 University of Georgia’s Liz Murphey Invitational on March 27-29.
The Lady Rebel Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss., April 3-5 marks the end of the spring season.
The 2009 Southeastern Conference Championship will be held in Columbia, S.C., April 17-19. The NCAA Regional Championship is scheduled for May 7-9 with the location TBA and the NCAA Championship on May 19-22 at Owings Mills, Md.
