Lexington, Ky. – The UK women’s soccer team returns home after a lengthy absence to take on the Oakland Grizzlies (1-5-1) Friday night.

The Cats (1-5-0) have not played a home match since Thursday, Aug. 28, when they opened the season against the eighth ranked Texas Longhorns. Friday night’s match is the start of a six game home stand for the Wildcats, their longest of the season.

Kentucky is looking to jump start its offense which has yielded just three goals in six matches this season. However, if Tuesday’s match was any indication, the UK offense could be ready to turn the corner. The Wildcats got off a season high 24 shots against Evansville, nine on goal.

Oakland has allowed 20 goals through seven games this season, surrendering four or more goals three times. The Grizzlies enter the weekend having dropped two in a row and four of their last five matches. They are led offensively by Deanna Colarossi who has amassed a team best six points on three goals, also a team high.

The Wildcats are led offensively by sophomore Laura Novikoff, who has tallied five points on two goals and an assist. Senior defender Tara Herold has been an iron woman for Kentucky having played 540 of a possible 540 minutes for UK this season. The senior defender looks to keeper her 71-match starting streak intact this weekend.

The Cats and the Grizzlies are scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff Friday at the UK Soccer Complex. The first 100 fans through the gates will receive a free 2008 UK Women’s Soccer keychain. Live stats for the match will be available at ukathletics.com.
