TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis squad traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the 22nd Annual Roberta Alison Classic. Of the three Wildcats at the tournament, Lauren Meier and Caroline Lilley each advance to final rounds while Jennifer Stone makes the back draw finals.

 

In singles action, sophomore Meier defeated Marjorie Ondeck of Memphis to advance to the championship. Meier dropped the first set 6-2, but fought back allowing only two total opponent points in sets two and three for a 6-1, 6-1, victory. The Wildcat will face SEC foe Alice Tunaru of the Crimson Tide Sunday morning.

 

UK newcomer Lilley overpowered Tulane’s Jessica Lange in a swift, 6-1, 6-1, match. Lilley is set to face another member of the Green Wave, Caroline Gerber during the singles final matches.

 

Stone continued in the back draw against Koren Fleming of the 49ers. The Kentucky freshman defeated Fleming in a third set tie-breaker for a final score of 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8). Stone faces Andrie Meiring of Samford in the back draw finals.

 

During the back draw doubles finals, Lilley and Stone defeated Alabama’s Meritt Emery and Bianca Svensson, 8-6. Kentucky’s freshmen duo won two of their three matches during the weekend tournament.

 

Meier paired with Tennessee Tech’s Corkern for the front draw consolation round. The doubles tandem outscored Memphis State’s Wiseman and Brown, 8-3.
