LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman wide receiver/quarterback Randall Cobb will wear jersey No. 12 during the Arkansas game in honor of wide receiver Dicky Lyons, whose University of Kentucky career was ended by injury last Saturday.
“Dicky was my role model even before I got here,” Cobb said of his request to wear 12, which was approved by Coach Rich Brooks. “There are a lot of things that he taught me and all the wide receivers. He’s a person we look up to and can talk to about anything, not just football.”
Lyons sustained a knee injury during the South Carolina game, ending the collegiate career of the Wildcat senior. Lyons has caught 141 passes for 1,752 yards and 18 touchdowns during his time at UK.
“He (Randall) called me and asked about wearing my number and I told him, ‘The honor’s all mine,’” Lyons said. “He told me how much I meant to him and appreciated what I had done for him. To have someone want to do that means a lot.”
Cobb plans to return to his usual jersey number, 18, after the Arkansas game.
