LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky swimming and diving teams return to the pool this weekend for a pair of dual meets. UK’s men and women will first welcome Virginia to the Lancaster Aquatic Center Friday afternoon at 3:30. Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Kentucky hosts IUPUI in their second meet of the weekend.
The last time out for the Blue and White the men’s squad fell to SEC rival Tennessee. They were led by freshman Morne’ Boshoff shined for the Kentucky men as the first year athlete claimed the top spot in three events the 1000 and 500-freestyle and the 400-individual medley races for his first wins of his career. Boshoff beat the field with a 9:30.71 time in the 1000-free to begin the meet. He then bested the field by nearly two seconds with a time of 4:39.81 in the 500-free. In the 400-IM Boshoff was the top Wildcat finisher with a time of 4:09.02 for his third win of the day.
On the women’s side, junior Megan Pulskamp and sophomore Jessie Snowden each earned wins for Kentucky in their loss to the Lady Vols. Pulskamp finished with wins in both of the butterfly events, with Snowden earning the top honors on the three-meter board. Pulskamp first won 200-fly for the second straight meet. Against Tennessee she touched in 2:02.03 to best the field. She then clocked in with a 54.77 time in the 100-fly for her second win of the day. Snowden claimed the best score on the three-meter board with a clip of 284.63. The sophomore also placed second on the one-meter with a score of 251.10, just behind Tennessee’s top finisher who scored a 251.77 score.
The Cavalier men’s squad is coming off a 15th place finish at the NCAA Championships a season ago. Virginia has seen action against South Carolina, Clemson, Virginia Tech and Tennessee already this season. On the women’s side, the Cavaliers posted a 20th place finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships. They have competed against South Carolina, Clemson and the Hokies thus far this season.
Prior to coming to Lexington, IUPUI’s men’s team will face Centre College Friday night. Previous dual meets for the Jaguars include Western and Eastern Illinois. The women’s team for IUPUI will also meet with Centre College Friday night. The women also added Butler to their schedule in addition to the opponents the men’s team has also faced.
