LEXINGTON, Ky. — After cruising to a 7-1 record to open up the fall season, the Kentucky rifle team resumes its 2008-09 season with a home match against Murray State on Saturday at UK’s Barker Hall.
“We are excited to get back to competition,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “The team has been working hard and is eager to get back to the range to open up the second half of the season. Murray State is a good team and we will have shoot well in order to claim the win.”
The Wildcats opened up the fall portion of the schedule with wins over Ohio State, Nebraska, UT Martin, Army, Memphis, West Virginia and at TCU. UK’s lone blemish on the record was a 4651-4635 setback at the defending NCAA Champion Alaska-Fairbanks.
Kentucky was led last time out in a win at TCU, with Tom Csenge posting a 589 in air rifle, while Ashley Jackson totaled a team-high 594 in air rifle. Freshman Ethan Settlemires finished with a 590 in air rifle. In a win over West Virginia, Jackson notched a 587 in air rifle, along with Csenge, with freshman Megan English totaling a 590 in air rifle.
“We are looking for a number that would give us some confidence going into the spring time,” Mullins said. “It is still the first week back so we need to get back in the swing of things and we are looking for a decent number. We have been training hard and working hard, now it is time to put it to the test.”
