No. 15 Kentucky Starts SEC Play with Tennessee and Georgia

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 15 Kentucky men’s tennis team will begin Southeastern Conference play this weekend when the Wildcats host No. 38 Tennessee on Friday and No. 22 Georgia on Sunday at the Boone Tennis Center. The match with UT will begin at 5 p.m. and UGA will start at 1 p.m.
Last weekend, the Wildcats took down No. 19 Illinois, 4-0, to wrap up nonconference play. Senior Beck Pennington, No. 78 senior Nils Ellefsen, and junior Trey Yates all earned singles victories in the sweep, and UK also won a hard-fought doubles point.
Tennessee is 8-4 this season, including wins over Tulsa and Lipscomb. The Volunteers have one ranked singles player, No. 76 Timo Stodder. In doubles, Stodder joins Scott Jones for Tennessee’s only ranked doubles duo at No. 25.
Georgia is 4-5 this season, and will face Vanderbilt before heading to Lexington. The Bulldogs started the year 3-0 with wins over Georgia Tech, Purdue and Washington before dropping four-straight. The wins over the Boliermakers and Huskies were part of the ITA Kickoff weekend. UGA advanced to the sweet 16 of the ITA Nationals, where North Carolina eliminated the Bulldogs, 4-2.  Georgia has three ranked individuals of No. 30 Wayne Montgomery, No. 38 Emil Reinberg and No. 104 Nathan Ponwith. In doubles, Jan Zielinski and Robert Loeb come in at No. 44 while the duo of Zielinski and Walker Duncan are ranked No. 52.
After this weekend, Kentucky will hit the road for the first time in the SEC when UK takes on LSU and Texas A&M next Friday and Sunday.
