KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Freshman Ashlee Rose leads the University of Kentucky women’s golf team after the first 18 holes of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic at Cougar Point Golf Course Sunday.
“Ashlee Rose played an outstanding round today in very difficult, wind swept conditions,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “Her round was highlighted by a birdie on the last hole and a solid short game all day.”
Rose carded a two-over-par 74 – good for a 12th place tie. Co-captains Kristin Vincent and Mallory Blackwelder finished tied for 64th shooting a 79. Junior Sara Hurwitch shot an 80 and concluded the round with a birdie on the last hole. Junior Erica Still finished with an 85.
The Wildcats finished 15th carding a 312, a mere two strokes out of the top-10. Kentucky came within seven strokes of three Southeastern Conference rivals – Mississippi State (311), No. 26 Florida (309) and No. 35 Ole Miss (305).
“After the round, the team went over to Oak Point to work on putting and wind shots in preparation for tomorrow,” Myra Blackwelder said. “The low 22 teams will make the cut and return to Cougar Point for the final round on Tuesday.”
Tee times on Monday will begin at 10:25 a.m. ET. Live scoring is available on www.golfstat.com.
