BATON ROUGE, La. – Already shooting a season low 293 in round one of the LSU Golf Classic, the University of Kentucky women’s golf team set a new season record of 288 to tie for eighth place, on Sunday at the University Club at Baton Rouge.
The Wildcats were only two strokes away from the all-time school record of 286 which was set at Florida State.
“The team broke through two significant barriers today to achieve two pre-season goals,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “One was breaking the 290 barrier by two strokes to finish the day at an even par 288. The second was breaking 300 for three consecutive days.”
No. 42 Kentucky carded a season best 880 (293-299-288) – the lowest finish the Wildcats have scored under the direction of head coach Myra Blackwelder.
“Freshman Alyssa Randolph turned in her best performance of the year and first top-10 finish as a Wildcat by shooting an outstanding 68,” Myra Blackwelder said. “Her round was solid from tee to green and she converted five birdies. This earned her two exemptions into the upcoming events at UGA and Ole Miss.”
Freshman Ashlee Rose steadied her score as she carded a two-over-par 74. The Lexington, Ky., native tied for 37th with a cumulative 221 (70-77-74).
“Mallory Blackwelder shot a solid 71 which was her first under par round of the spring season,” Myra Blackwelder said.
Blackwelder finished the tournament with a six-over-par 222 (74-75-71) – good for a 43rd-place tie.
Junior Sara Hurwitch carded a 228 (74-75-79) as she tied for 66th place. Kristin Vincent concluded the final round with a three-over-par 75. The Burlington, N.C., native carded a cumulative 230 (77-78-75) which secured a tie for 76th place.
The Wildcats will make their next appearance at the Liz Murphey Invitational in Athens, Ga., on March 27-29.
