LEXINGTON, Ky. — After posting wins over Centre and the University of the Cumberlands in spring action, the Kentucky men’s soccer team hosts back-to-back Saturday twin-bills, including games with IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, Evansville and Rio Grande at the UK Soccer Complex.
UK will play IUPUI Saturday, April 11 at 2:30 p.m. ET, returning to action Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Northern Kentucky. Northern Kentucky will play Marshall at 4 p.m. Saturday, with Marshall and IUPUI squaring off at 5:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
On Saturday, April 18, UK will play Evansville at 5 p.m. ET and Rio Grande at 6:30 p.m. Memphis and Dayton will open competition at 11 a.m., with the Tigers playing Cincinnati at 12:30 p.m., Dayton and Evansville squaring off at 2 p.m., and Cincinnati vs. Rio Grande slated for 6:30 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
UK will host club games throughout the day both Saturday’s, beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET on April 11, and at 12:00 p.m. on April 18. Games will consist of two 35-minute periods.
Admission is free for all the games.
Wildcats Post Back-to-Back Impressive Spring Wins
The Kentucky soccer team notched a pair of spring wins over Centre, 3-0 and the University of the Cumberlands, 3-2.
UK played several players making their first collegiate action in a dominating win over Centre, getting goals from Tim Crone, Thomas Zimmerman and Dayton transfer Josh Albers in a 3-0 win. Nine UK players saw their first collegiate action, including freshman goalkeeper Joey Peglow, who notched the clean sheet.
In the win over the University of the Cumberlands, goals from the 2008 Conference USA Newcomer of the Year Marco dos Santos, Radford transfer Josh Mcrary and 2008 All-American defender Barry Rice in a 3-2 win. In a highly competitive game, UK dominaed possession and scoring opportunities, but the Cumberlands would not be retired. UK’s goals came in creative attacking form, with the game highlighted by outstanding offensive performances from Tim Crone, Jason Griffiths and C.J. Tappel.
