LONDON, Ky. –Kentucky senior Erica Still begins competition at the Crooked Creek Classic Friday at Crooked Creek Golf Course in London, Ky. The Classic is one of 19 events on the 2009 Duramed FUTURES Tour.
“I am elated that Erica Still gets to participate in the LPGA Duramed FUTURES Tour event in London,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “She shot an outstanding 72 to qualify for an amateur spot. This type of experience is invaluable to a college player and will give Erica a chance to test her game against the up-and-coming professionals who will one day play on the LPGA Tour.”
Still, competing in the event as an amateur, tees off Friday at 12:50 p.m. EDT. She joins professionals Jenny Suh and Jenny Gleason. Now in its 29th season, the Duramed FUTURES Tour has established itself as “the Road to the LPGA and Beyond,” and since 1999, it has been designated as the official developmental tour of the LPGA. More than 300 Duramed FUTURES Tour alumnae are LPGA members, and through 2007, alums have won a total of 330 LPGA victories and 35 major championships.
The program has also established strong connections with NCAA women’s golf programs, helping make the transition of collegiate players more seamless as they graduate and move into professional ranks. Beginning in 2007, the Tour became the title sponsor of the Duramed FUTURES Tour NGCA (National Golf Coaches Association) All-America Golf Teams for NCAA Division I, II and III women’s collegiate golf.
Last season for the Wildcats, Still competed in seven events and ended the season with a 77.76 stroke average. Her best finish of the season came at the Lady Mocs Invitational where she placed 10th.
Albrecht Defeated in Match Play at U.S. Women’s Amateur
ST. LOUIS–Incoming freshman Ashleigh Albrecht fell 3-and-2 in the first round of match play at the 2009 U.S. Women’s Amateur Wednesday at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo.
The match was all square through seven holes, but Albrecht bogeyed the par four No. 8 and No. 10. Albrecht remained two down until she bogeyed No. 16, putting her three down with two holes to play.
Albrecht qualified for match play after shooting a 7-over-par 149 (73, 76) in the opening stroke play rounds. She earned a spot in the event after qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Open on June 11 in the U.S. Women’s Open Sectional Qualifying rounds at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, N.C. There, she carded a 2-over-par 146 (76, 70).
