LEXINGTON, Ky. –
University of Kentucky cross country head coach Don Weber announced the Wildcats will participate in four meets within the Bluegrass State to highlight the 2009 schedule released Wednesday.
The Wildcats begin their tour of the Bluegrass Friday, Sept. 4 at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational in Richmond. Two weeks later UK travels to Bowling Green to take part in the Old Timers Classic hosted by Western Kentucky.
On the opening weekend of October, the Blue and White visit the Derby City to race in the
Greater Louisville Classic hosted by Louisville. U of L will also host the NCAA Southeast Regional this year at E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer Park.
The Cats leave the state for the first time when they trek northeast to participate in the Penn State National Invitational Oct. 16 in University Park, Pa.
Kentucky begins the postseason at the 2009 SEC Championships hosted by the University of Mississippi on Halloween. The teams return to Louisville on Nov. 14 to run in the NCAA Southeast Regional. The NCAA Championship meet will again be hosted this season by Indiana State University on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Last season, the Wildcat women returned to the NCAA Championships for the first time in 19 years, finishing 31st overall. The team secured an automatic bid to the NCAAs after a second-place showing at the 2008 Southeast Regional. On the men’s side, Adam Henken represented UK at the Championships after placing fifth overall at the regional to automatically qualify as an individual.
