The UK women’s soccer team looks to get back on the winning track Sunday, as they close out their four-game home stand to open the season hosting the Akron Zips (2-0-0).
The Wildcats opened the season with two straight wins before dropping their first match of the season to ninth ranked Wake Forest on Friday, 1-0.
Sunday’s game with the Zips marks the first time UK has played Akron on the soccer pitch. However, the Wildcats carry an 8-0-0 mark against schools comprising the Mid-American conference and is 4-1-2 against first-time opponents in the past two years.
Kentucky is led offensively by junior Giuleana Lopez and sophomore Jenna Goblirsch with three points on a goal and an assist. Both goals have been game-winners for Kentucky, Goblirsch’s goal coming against Cincinnati and Lopez’s goal against Louisville.
Sydney Hiance is 2-1-0 as a starter in net this season for the Wildcats, posting a 0.67 goals-against-average.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. Fans will receive 2-for-1 admission as the UK men’s team plays Bowling Green before the women’s match.
