LEXINGTON, Ky. – Despite a 42-0 victory over Miami in the season opener, not everything looked good on the game film, Coach Rich Brooks noted after Tuesday morning’s practice.
“Busted coverages in the secondary, some busted assignments in the offensive line, some busted routes by receivers,” Brooks said when asked for an inventory of his displeasure. “There’s a lot of issues, if you don’t get better you get worse. If you stay the same people pass you by. We have a lot of issues we need to get better in execution and technique. If we don’t we will pay the price as we move forward.”
With an open date this week, attention turns to the next opponent – in-state rival Louisville on Sept. 19.
“Defensively, I was very impressed with their (Louisville) speed and quickness,” Brooks said of the Cardinals’ victory over Indiana State. “Obviously, the way they played (was impressive). They basically shut ‘em down. Offensively they did some very good things. They would have scored a lot more points had they not had all the yellow flags.”
Brooks announced that linebacker Danny Trevathan is in a cast after having a pin surgically inserted in his wrist on Monday. He hopes to return to practice next week.
Cats Nudge Up in USA Today Poll: Kentucky moved up three spots in the USA Today top-25 poll released after the first week of the season. The Cats are the No. 14 team in “others receiving votes,” equivalent of No. 39 overall.
Kentucky was No. 42 overall in the USA Today preseason poll.
