The University of Kentucky women’s golf team stands tied for second (303-290) at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup after completing two rounds Monday at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
Junior Louise Ljungstedt stands tied for fourth after a posting a stellar 4-under-par 68 in the second round. Making her season debut, Ljungstedt recorded five birdies in the afternoon round. She finished the first round with a 77.
“It was a great day for UK women’s golf,” head coach Myra Blackwelder said. “The day was highlighted by Louise Ljungstedt’s 68 in the afternoon round. Louise has worked very hard over the last two years in an effort to retool her game.”
Senior Kristin Vincent is currently tied for eighth with a 3-over-par 147 (75-72). Freshman Heather Lott recovered from a first-round 80 with a 72 in the second round. She stands tied for 25th. Fellow freshman Betsie Johnson posted a 153 on the day and finished in a tie for 29th. Ashleigh Albrecht, Kentucky’s third freshman registered a 157 (76-81) on the opening day of action.
In addition to the starting five, three Wildcat individuals are also competing. Senior Sara Hurwitch leads the individuals with a 4-over-par 148 (71-77). After the first round, Hurwitch stood tied for second, but finished the day in a tie for 12th. Sophomore Laura McGehee rounds out Kentucky’s top-20 finishers. She enters the final day tied for 20th with a 151 (76-75). Also a sophomore, Megan Moir registered a 158 (81-77).
Louisville holds the lead entering the final round with a 1-under-par 575 (289-286), while the Wildcats share second place with Maryland (303-290).
