LEXINGTON, Ky. — Coming off a Great American Rifle Conference regular-season and tournament championship a year ago, the Kentucky rifle team kicks off the 2009-10 season, hosting North Carolina State Friday and Memphis Sunday at Barker Hall.
Kentucky finished the 2008-09 season with the GARC regular-season and tournament titles, finishing second in the NCAA Championships. UK has finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Championships in 15 of the last 16 seasons.
The Wildcats return a star-studded roster in 2009-10, including seniors Leslie Angeli, Tom Csenge, Ashley Jackson and Jen Pason. Juniors Sarah Broeker and Logan Fox, join dynamic sophomore shooters Megan English and Ethan Settlemires on a talented UK roster. Head coach Harry Mullins welcomes one of the top freshmen classes in the nation, including Katie Fretts, Heather Greathouse, James Jasis and Stacy Wheatley.
“We are very excited to begin the season,” Mullins said. “We have an extremely talented team back and we are looking forward to achieving our goals. The team is working very hard and is committed to breaking through individual and team barriers and is focused on the task at hand.”
Beginning with the weekend matches, UKathletics.com will offer the most comprehensive match coverage in collegiate rifle. Fans can follow along with detailed live scoring, featuring electronic targets. In addition, UK will host an interactive live blog, allowing fans to ask questions and follow along with the action.
“This will just give our fans an opportunity to follow along with our season even though they may not be able to be there,” Mullins said. “The electronic scoring system allows us the chance to give fans a real-time look at the matches. We are very excited to give fans the best match coverage in the nation.”
If fans are coming on seeing the match, the best time is at 10:30 a.m. ET and/or 3:30 p.m. ET Friday and Sunday.
