LEXINGTON, Ky. – The competition between junior Will Fidler and freshman Morgan Newton for Kentucky’s starting quarterback position got underway during practice Tuesday morning.

“The quarterbacks both played pretty good,” Coach Rich Brooks said.  “They both threw some good balls and did some good things.  We’ve talked about making sure we make good decisions and protect the football.

“You’ve got to be confident in the huddle, you’ve got to be confident at the line of scrimmage. Whether the play works or not, just like you have to have a short memory at corner(back), you have to have a short memory at quarterback. You can’t let one play affect the next one,” the coach continued.  “I’m worried about the speed of the game and decision-making and making more positive plays than negative.”

Brooks also announced that sophomore guard/center Jake Lanefski incurred an injured knee in practice, the extent of which was not known at that time.
