LEXINGTON, Ky. – Just a week after opening its 2009-10 schedule the Kentucky swimming and diving teams will host their first home event of the season Saturday. UK’s men will welcome Southern Illinois and the University of the Cumberlands, while the Kentucky women will face Southeastern Conference rival Arkansas at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The meet is slated for a 3:00 p.m. ET start time.
Kentucky began its season a week ago in South Carolina with the UK women defeating the Gamecocks by a 168-130 margin. Kentucky’s men dropped a close meet by the score of 160-140.
Kentucky’s relay squads were simply spectacular in the first meet of the year as both the men’s and women’s 200-medley and 400-free relays captured wins. UK went one-two in three of the four relays to highlight the impressive performance.
Seniors Alex Forbes and Megan Pulskamp both were winners of two events in the first meet of the season. Forbes captured wins in both the 50- and 100-freestyle events, while Pulskamp swept the butterfly races.
In all UK racked up nine individual victories in the first meet of the season. The Wildcats also swept four events with Blue and White swimmers tapping in the first three slots of events.
The tri-meet at the Lancaster Aquatic Center will begin at 3 p.m. ET. The men will face two teams, while UK’s women is set to go head-to-head with Arkansas.
