TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –

After knocking off the second-ranked player in the nation Saturday, Kentucky men’s tennis sophomore Alex Musialek capped off the weekend with a singles title at the Crimson Tide Fall Championships by beating Charlie Jones of Vanderbilt 6-3, 6-4 at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium Sunday.

Musialek used a service break advantage to take the first set 6-3. In the second the Dax, France, native fought off Jones to claim the match at 6-4. With the win, Musialek improves his singles mark to 6-2 in the fall. Five of his six victories have been in straight sets.

“Alex has been hurt this fall and really wanted to play this event and close his fall on a strong note,” said UK men’s tennis head coach Dennis Emery. “He was able to follow up his big win Saturday with another solid performance today.”

On Saturday Musialek topped No. 2 J.P. Smith of Tennessee 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 to advance to the final, arguably the biggest win of the Wildcat’s young career. Earlier in the tourney Musialek advanced with a second-round win over Danny Manlow of UAB 6-4, 6-3 and a first-round defeat of Leon Nasserman from Memphis 6-1, 6-2.

Musialek’s classmate and teammate Eric Quigley will take the court in the Wildcats’ final tournament of 2009 at the prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Championships beginning Thursday.
