CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior diver Lisa Faulkner continues to shine as the Virginia native capped off her impressive weekend by capturing victories on both boards in a Kentucky loss at the University of Virginia Saturday morning. Faulkner has swept the diving events in each of Kentucky’s last four dual meets.
Faulkner was the lone UK athlete to capture two individual wins as the Cavaliers earned a 165-125 win over the Kentucky men and a 172-110 victory over the women.
The diver who is a transfer from George Mason has been simply spectacular for the Blue and White in her first season for the Cats. In today’s meet she earned win on the one-meter with a score of 287.85. On the three-meter Faulkner posted a 318.45 score in her sweep.
Kentucky’s women captured wins in both relays events in today’s meet. In the 200-medley relay the quartet of juniors Chatham Penrod (26.86) and Lindsey Graessle (30.10) as senior Megan Pulskamp (24.76) as well as sophomore Kelsi Hall (23.23) tapped in a collective time of 1:44.95 to open the meet.
Pulskamp would go on to capture first in the 100-fly in a time of 55.29. Senior Casey Miller tapped in first in the 400-individual medley with a clip of 4:31.69.
To wrap up the meet, UK’s 200-free relay touched in a time of 1:34.09 for the win. Juniors Jenna Newsome (23.92) and Kayla Sergesketter (23.58) teamed up with Pulskamp (23.03) and Hall (23.56) for the win.
On the men’s side, senior Eric McGinnis once again was the first finisher in the 50-free with a time of 20.04. Senior Warren Grobbelaar bettered the field in the 100-fly when he clocked in a time of 49.37. Freshman Tripp Crosthwaite took first place in the 400-individual medley with a time of 4:11.44.
Freshman John Fox also earned a win in the three-meter with a score of 330.15. Earlier Fox placed second on the one-meter with a score of 274.57 for an impressive meet.
UK also took first in the 200-free relay on the men’s side. McGinnis (19.98), Elvis Burrows (20.06), Grobbelaar (20.54) and Alex Forbes (19.92) tapped in a time of 1:20.50 for the win.
Forbes was second in the 100-free with a time of 45.49. Other second-place finishers for the Blue and White were junior Tyler Reed in the 200-free (1:40.14), senior Julio Vallette in the 100-breast (58.15) and freshman Maclin Simpson in the 200-fly (1:54.39).
Kentucky returns to action on Nov. 19th. UK will compete in the Tennessee Invitational for the second consecutive season. The championship-like meet will cover three days hosted in Knoxville.
