UK Ready for Challenge at Schenkel Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s golf team will face another tough test in its third event of the spring season, the Schenkel Invitational, March 17-19 at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia.

What Head Coach Brian Craig is Saying:

“The Schenkel Invitational is one of the absolute best events in all of college golf. I love everything about this long-standing event and can’t wait to play in it again this year. The field is strong and Forest Heights Country Club is in terrific shape. We are ready for the challenge.”

Kentucky will use a similar lineup as it did at the General Hackler Championship in sophomores Lukas Euler and Fred Allen Meyer, juniors Cooper Musselman and Tyler “Chip” McDaniel and senior Stephen Stallings. Freshman Matt Liston will compete as an individual.

Musselman finished in the top 30 among all individuals in the General Hackler Championship. The Louisville, Kentucky, native has not placed below a tie for 28th this season and has three top-10 finishes to his credit – two in the top five. Musselman now owns five top-20 finishes, more than any Wildcat on the team and co-owns a team-leading 71.9 scoring average with McDaniel.

Euler is fresh off his highest finish of the 2016-17 season. The sophomore tied for ninth and fired a 2-under 70 in the first round of the General Hackler Championship. Euler’s current average sits at 73 with a low 18 of 69. He also has three top-20 finishes this season.

Meyer is back in the starting lineup after a great last outing. He fired back-to-back even par rounds last time out to match Euler’s tie for ninth place, his second-best placement of the season.

McDaniel owns just one less top-20 finish than Musselman and has been the top finisher for UK in two events this season, including a third place finish at the Steelwood Intercollegiate and a tie for third at the Bearcat Invitational. He finished in the top 40 among all individuals last week after two rounds of 74.
Stallings is the fifth Wildcat with at least three top-20 finishes on the season. He enters this weekend’s tournament with a 73.4 scoring average. Stallings finished tied for 45th in the last event. Freshman Matt Liston will make his second-career appearance this weekend. He tied for 60th place in his first appearance last week.

The Tournament Field:

UK will make its 12th-consecutive appearance at the Schenkel Invitational. The Wildcats finished tied for third last season, their best finish other than sole possession of third place during their first appearance back in 2006.

This year’s 14-team field includes, No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Florida, No. 32 Lipscomb, No. 36 North Florida, No. 39 Jacksonville, No. 53 N.C. State, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Iowa, Kansas State, Notre Dame, and UAB.
