POITIERS, France – –

University of Kentucky men’s tennis star Eric Quigley teamed with Notre Dame’s Kristy Frilling to win the deciding mixed doubles point to give the United States a 4-3 win over France in the finals of the Master’U BNP Paribas on Sunday.

Quigley and Frilling won in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 over Maxime Quinqueneau and Nathalie Piquion, capping off a stunning, come-from-behind win by the Red, White and Blue.

The United States began the day by splitting a pair of women’s singles matches with France, before dropping both men’s singles matches to fall behind 3-1. However, the U.S. swept all doubles point opportunities, claiming the women’s, men’s and mixed doubles points for the 4-3 victory.

Quigley a sophomore from Pewee Valley, Ky., had played at the second men’s singles position for the U.S. each of the previous two rounds, defeating Thomas Petrich of Switzerland 6-2, 6-2 in Friday’s opener and Great Britain’s Keith Meisner 6-3, 6-3 in Saturday’s semifinals.

The Americans entered Sunday’s final round having surrendered only one point in team victories over Switzerland and Great Britain.

France had won the Master’U BNP Paribas competition two of the previous three years, including victories in 2006 and 2007.

Quigley was selected earlier this fall to be one of six college players to play in the tournament. Quigley has had a very successful 2009 fall season for the Wildcats, winning the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship and qualifying for the National Indoors Championships. Quigley is currently, the No. 70 ranked player in the ITA Preseason Division I singles rankings.
