PHILADELPHIA — Kentucky senior men’s soccer midfielder Jason Griffiths has been selected in the third round of the 2010 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by the New England Revolution, it was announced at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Griffiths, a native of Bracknell, England, is the second all-time UK player to be drafted in the MLS SuperDraft, as former UK standout goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum was the third overall selection in the 2005 draft. The Revolution picked Griffiths with the 48th overall selection.
A 5-foot-11 midfielder, Griffiths had a storied four-year career at Kentucky, playing in 64 career games with 34 points. Griffiths charted 12 goals and 10 assists in his career, including a perfect 8-for-8 in regular-season penalty-kick opportunities. In 2009, Griffiths had three goals and one assist, playing in 17 games for the Wildcats.
The draft began at 2 p.m. ET Thursday and will last through the fourth and final round.
