LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky baseball signee and Louisville Trinity standout Corey Littrell has been named a first-team High School All-American by Louisville Slugger, it was announced by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Friday.

Littrell, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound southpaw, is regarded as the top prospect in the state of Kentucky. Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and Louisville Slugger selected Littrell to the first-team, one of 37 pitchers in all of high school baseball to be named to the first-team. Littrell is the only pitcher in the state of Kentucky to make the Louisville Slugger High School All-America team, which is in its 14th year.

In 2009, Littrell earned All-State honors for head coach Steven Tompkins at Trinity, striking out a staggering 141 in 111 innings, charting a 13-2 record and a 0.72 ERA. A veteran of the East-Coast Professional Showcase in Lakeland, Fla., Littrell also added a .375 average with 19 runs, seven doubles, two homers and 18 RBI at the plate in 2009, helping lead Trinity to the state-semi championship in 2009.

“We are very excited for Corey to be honored by Louisville Slugger and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper,” UK head coach Gary Henderson said. “Corey is the top pitcher in the state and has really developed into one of the top high school talents in the nation. He is an outstanding competitor with an advanced ability to pitch for his age. We are excited for Corey and can’t wait to get him in a Kentucky uniform next year.”

Littrell was part of the signing class, announced in November, that includes nine players for the 2011 season, including fellow Kentucky natives Trevor Gott (Lexington, Ky.), Blake Perry (Danville, Ky.), J.T. Riddle (Frankfort, Ky.) and Lucas Witt (Lexington, Ky.). UK also signed infielder Dallen Reber (St. George, Utah), infielder Matt Reida (Russiaville, Ind.), outfielder Gavin Patton (South Charleston, W.Va.) and infielder Paul McConkey (Knoxville, Tenn.).
