LEXINGTON, Ky. — Former University of Kentucky men’s golf standout, J.B. Holmes, continued his hot start to the 2010 season by finishing tied for second at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Tournament with an overall score of 15-under-par on Sunday.
It marks the second consecutive top-three finish for the native of Campbellsville, Ky., who finished tied for third at the Northern Trust open last weekend. The 2005 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year shot a 1-under-par in the final round and had a chance on the final hole to force a playoff with a 13-foot birdie putt. It marks only the second time in his career that the 2006 and 2008 FBR Open Champion has finished in second place.
Holmes posted three birdies in the fourth and final round and 19 birdies in all. In the first round, Holmes carded an eagle on the par-4 eighth hole. A key member of UK’s 2005 SEC Championship team, Holmes ranked sixth in the tournament in driving distance with a 287.5 average and tied for 14th in the tournament in putts per round with a 28.3 mark.
Dustin Johnson won the tournament title with a 4-foot birdie putt on the final hole to finish at 16-under-par. David Duval finished tied for second with Holmes, while Steve Marino finished fourth at 13-under-par.
According to Holmes Web site, he is scheduled to play in the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana, Ariz., beginning Feb. 18.
