LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s basketball standout Victoria Dunlap added another honor to her impressive resume this season and she was named a nominee for the WBCA/State Farm Coaches’ All-America All-Region 3 Team.
Dunlap, a junior forward from Nashville, Tenn., earned a spot on the seven-member Region 3 team after averaging 17.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.1 blocks per game. She is the only Southeastern Conference player to rank among the league’s top three players in scoring and rebounding. Dunlap ranks among the SEC’s top 10 in seven other statistical categories.
A standout defensive player, Dunlap ranks among the nation’s leaders in steals (14th -3.1) and blocks (34th – 2.1). She has dominated the low post, setting a single-season school record of 64 blocks. That total topped the previous mark of 56 set by UK’s all-time leading shot blocker Sarah Elliott in 2007-08. Offensively, Dunlap has led the Wildcats in scoring 17 times, has posted eight double-doubles and scored 20 or more points on 10 occasions.
The State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team selection committee will review the 52 regional candidates and cut the list to 40 finalists on Tuesday, March 23. The 40 finalists will all be in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team.
