STATESBORO, Ga. — Lead by even-par days from senior Jordan Blann and sophomore Mads Kristensen, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team (295-293-588) improved two strokes and moved up the leaderboard into a tie for 11th at the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational on Saturday. The three-day tournament is being played at the par 72, 6,962 yard Forest Heights Country Club.
Blann (76-72-148) posted two birdies on the day for the even-par score, his third even-par score in the last four rounds of competition. The native of Bowling Green, Ky., moved up the player leaderboard almost 15 spots on Saturday into a tie for 49th with a two-day total of 4-over-par. Blann, who started on the 10th hole, began his round by bogeying two of the first three holes but played brilliant golf down the stretch, posting 14 pars and two birdies the rest of the round.
Kristensen (75-72-147), who started the round in a tie for 52nd, made the biggest push up the leaderboard on Saturday, moving up 14 spots and into a tie for 38th. The native of Denmark, Kristensen’s round of 72 has him on pace to record his lowest 54-hole tournament score of the season. Like Blann, Kristensen was a par machine on Saturday, parring 14 holes with two birdies and two bogeys. Kristensen sits a 3-over-par for the tournament.
Senior Ben Fuqua (71-74-145) still leads the way for the Wildcats, sitting in a tie for 23rd after a 2-over-par score in round two. Fuqua, who started on the 10th tee, struggled on the first nine holes with a 4-over-par score. The native of Danville, Ky., answered in the final nine holes with two birdies and seven pars to at 1-over-par after the first two days of competition.
Freshman Chase Parker (73-75-148) and junior Brian Belden round out the UK rotation after day two, sitting in a tie for 49th and 78th, respectively. Parker posted a team-high three birdies in the second round and sits at 4-over-par for the tournament after carding a 3-over-par score in the second round. Belden is 12-over-par for the tournament.
Junior James Kania (78-75-153), playing as an individual in the tournament, improved by three strokes on Saturday and jumped up one position into a tie for 71st position.
The third and final round will be held on Sunday. Tee times for the third round have been moved up to 8 a.m. ET due to the expectation of inclement weather.
