LEXINGTON, Ky. – – The University of Kentucky track and field team travels to compete in its first major outdoor meet of the season at the Pepsi Florida Relays April 2- 3, in Gainesville, Fla.
Hosted by the University of Florida, the Pepsi Florida Relays presents its 66th occurrence this Friday and Saturday. The meet will take place at the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track. Gates open at 9 a.m. each day proceeding the 10 a.m. event start times. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.

The women are listed in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association first outdoor top-25 poll of the season.
Kentucky will have a full showing for the men’s and women’s teams at the Florida Relays. Last weekend, the Cats sent select throwers and distance runners to the Yellow Jacket Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
Senior Kristin Smith highlighted the Cat’s performances with a victory in the women’s hammer throw, with a 59.54m (195 feet, 4 inches) toss. In Atlanta, teammate Heather Smith took fifth in the event with 52.16m (171 feet, 1 inch).
Jennifer Svoboda finished second in the women’s shot put with a throw of 14.98m (49 feet, 1.75 inches), while the team’s sole men’s thrower, Colin Boevers earned second in the shot put competition.
The women’s distance runners placed three in the top five in the 3000m steeplechase competition. Lindsey Petri finished second with a time of 11:03.49 while teammates Andrea Halasek-Ricardson and Claire Laverty followed in third and fifth with times of 11:16.87 and 11:43.44 respectively.
Jeremy Zagorski ran a 15:07.18 in the men’s 5000 meter run giving him a second-place finish in the meet.
The Pepsi Florida Relays is an annual event beginning in 1939. In its 66th year, the meet is regarded as the first major collegiate event of the outdoor track and field season.
Competitors at the event include Alabama, Behtune-Cookman, Buffalo, Clemson, Florida, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and UCF.
