LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky soccer teams will host its annual soccer camps for the 2010 summer beginning Monday, June 7. The deadline for discounted tuition has been waived due to many school systems extending their academic year.
The soccer programs will host three day camps for boys and girls ages 6-12. The dates are June 7-11, June 21-23 and July 19-23. The cost is $155 for a half-day (8 a.m.-Noon) and $295 for a full day (8 a.m.-4 p.m.). Lunch and swimming is included for full day campers.
The day camp is geared for the younger player looking to develop their skills at any level. The Wildcat day camp brings together the idea of having fun and learning the different technical and tactical aspects of soccer. We will help you develop as a player in many aspects of the game, including passing and receiving, finishing, heading, small-sided and full-sided games. The full day camp will include added summer activities along with additional soccer training.
UK will offer a residential camp for ages 8-14 on June 17-20. All of the training sessions are created to challenge soccer players of all ages, levels and abilities. The morning technical training sessions are designed to train particular skills through repetition in different situations and levels of pressure, i.e. dribbling, finishing, passing and receiving. The afternoon tactical sessions are designed to increase the application of the skills learned in the morning session in varying decision-making environments in areas of the field and under certain conditions. The nightly 11v11 matches allow each camper to display the newly acquired skills in game conditions. It is a total and complete soccer education.
An elite camp will be offered for boys and girls ages 13-18 on June 11-13 and again on July 16-18. This is a great program for those interested in playing college soccer. The elite program is one of the most advanced, challenging and competitive programs offered. UK welcomes all players who want to be challenged and look to improve their game. The UK philosophy is simple: build a solid technical foundation and then challenge you to perform with limited time and space. At the end of this camp you will be physically and mentally drained with a clearer picture of your abilities, your purpose and your commitment.
The final camp of the summer will be the team camp which is scheduled for July 10-13 and is open to boys and girls ages 13-18. We welcome all types of teams comprised of 12 or more players to our camps. One coach may attend free and receive a Nike coach’s package. Teams are housed together, train together and compete in our camp league which features matches every night.
UK will also offer specialized goalkeeper training at all of our camps. UK believes goalkeepers develop best with a blend of specialized training in goalkeeping fundamentals and also through the game experience and tactical demands our league competition provides.
“It is a great opportunity for players to further their skill and understanding of the game while further developing their passion and spirit,” said UK men’s soccer head coach Ian Collins.
