LEXINGTON, Ky. –
University of Kentucky track and field athletes Andrea Halasek-Richardson and Mary Angell have been named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women’s track and field/cross country teams.
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District award candidates were nominated based on select criteria including the significance of their athletic contributions, academic success and obtaining a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.30.
Senior Andrea Halsek-Richardson was named to Academic All-District First Team, a first-time honor for the distance runner. Halasek-Richardson is a graduate student pursuing her Masters in Education and holds a 4.0 GPA. A two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient and three-time SEC Community Service Team member, she was also named to the 2008 United States Track and Field and Cross Country All-Academic Team. In addition to her academic and community service awards, Halasek-Richardson is an All-SEC Cross Country performer and the school record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Women’s thrower Mary Angell earned an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team award with her cumulative GPA of 3.77 in Kinesiology. In 2009, Angell was an All-District CoSIDA Academic Honor Roll selection along with an All-SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient. The junior specializes in the shot put and discus throw, and stands in seventh place in the Kentucky record books in the shot put. Angell was a point scorer in both the shot put and discus at the SEC Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.

The Kentucky track and field team is currently in Eugene, Ore to compete in the final meet of the 2010 Outdoor season with the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 9-12.
