ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — University of Kentucky men’s golf sophomore Joseph Barr continued his strong summer play over the weekend by claiming the 2010 Elizabethtown Men’s Invitational at the Elizabethtown Country Club on Sunday.

Barr (72-72–144) played consistent golf the entire weekend, scoring two even-par rounds to finish the tournament at 144 and seal the title. The native of Versailles, Ky., was two strokes behind University of Louisville’s Karsten Clement going into the final round but finished four strokes better on the final 18 holes to post the two-stroke win.

“I started off really well, but then Karsten played real well on the back nine and made it kind of interesting there at the end,” Barr told The News Enterprise on Sunday.

Barr, who will be a sophomore in the 2010-11 season, played in three events last season for UK, posting a season-stroke average of 76.22. Barr’s best finish of the year came at the Firestone Invitational where he finished tied for fifth. Barr also played in the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational where he finished 65th and the UK Bluegrass Invitational where he posted a season-low round of 69.

Barr is fresh off finishing tied for third at the J.E. Butler Memorial in Danville, Ky., with a two-day score of 145. The UK golfer posted a 71 to open the tournament and carded a 74 on the final day to post the top-three score.
