LEXINGTON, Ky. – Four University of Kentucky track and field student-athletes earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association 2010 Division I Track and Field All-Academic Honors, announced by the organization Thursday.

Mary Angell, Josh Nadzam, Jennifer Svoboda, and Jeremy Zagorski collected the first All-Academic honor of their careers. Angell, Nadzam and Svoboda will be returning for their senior season while Zagorski graduated with a master’s degree in health administration.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.

All four student-athletes competed at the 2010 NCAA East preliminary rounds held at North Carolina A&T with Svoboda finishing 13th in the shot put, just outside of the top 12 qualifying positions. She entered the event 17th on the descending order list with a personal-best throw of 51-09.00/15.77m. Fellow female thrower, Angell, went into the East preliminary round 12th on the descending order list with a personal-best throw of 173-00.00/52.74m and finished 15th at the event. Both athletes have qualified for the preliminary rounds of the NCAA championships while competing at Kentucky.

For the men, Nadzam made great improvement entering the preliminary round 66th on the descending order list and came away with a 19th place finish with a time of 3:49.77. Nadzam finished the year with a personal-best time of 3:47.07. Also for the men, in his final season at Kentucky, Zagorski finished 43rd at the East preliminary meet with a time of 3:58.12 and finished with a season-best time of 3:46.33. It was the first trip to the preliminary rounds of the NCAA championships for Nadzam and Zagorski.
