Cat Scratches: Hiance, Beadle holding it together between the pipes

LEXINGTON, Ky. – UK senior goalkeeper Sydney Hiance has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

Hiance, a native of Ft. Thomas, Ky., posted her third and fourth shutouts of the season on the week in UK’s wins over Evansville and South Alabama. Her shutout against South Alabama was the 19th of her career moving her to third place on Kentucky’s all-time shutout list, one shy of second. Hiance and the Wildcats defense have recorded three straight shutouts and have yet to allow a goal at home this season in five matches.

Hiance has a 0.63 GAA so far this season, tied for third in the SEC, and her four shutouts is tied for the second best in the league.

The award is the sixth of her collegiate career which is the most for any Wildcat in school history. It’s the second time she’s received the honor this season and the 19th time a UK player has received any sort of SEC player of the week honor.

Kentucky opens league play this weekend hosting perennial power Florida on Friday night and highly ranked South Carolina on Sunday.
