LEXINGTON, Ky. – With rain forecasted for the immediate future, coaches at the 23rd Roberta Alison Fall Classic decided to push Sunday’s matches forward and finish the tournament a day early.
The Cats, who won 10 of their 16 matches Friday, were led by Marni Venter, Jessica Stiles and Meredith Morrow Saturday.
Venter, a freshman from Pretoria, South Africa, earned her first victory on the day in singles play of the tournament with a win over Ivon Simic of UT Martin, 6-3, ret.
In her second match, Venter defeated Jordan Zachary of Mississippi State 6-0, 6-3.
Stiles, a sophomore from Wyckoff, N.J., defeated Antonia Foehse of Alabama, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (3). It was Stiles’ second victory in singles play of the tournament.
Morrow was also victorious Saturday with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Katie McCall of UT Martin.
In doubles play, the freshmen duo of Caitlin McGraw and Misha Testerman took down Jenny Cape and Menanteau Moolman of UAB 8-2.
The tournament, which was originally scheduled to finish Sunday, is now over. As with all fall tournaments, results only go toward individual records.
The Cats will play again next weekend in the ITA/Riviera Women’s All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
