LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior quarterback Mike Hartline has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week and junior punter Ryan Tydlacka was honored with SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, the SEC announced Monday.
Hartline is coming off a career game in Kentucky’s 31-28 upset victory over the top-10 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. The native of Canton, Ohio, completed 32 passes for 349 yards and four touchdowns, all career highs. Hartline’s fourth touchdown pass was a game winning score, finding wide receiver Randall Cobb open in the endzone with just 1:15 to go to give UK the lead. On the season, Hartline has completed 68.3% of his passes for 1,791 yards and 13 touchdowns, ranking second in the SEC in passing yards per game.
On top of being named a Performer of the Week and National Quarterback of the Week by the Collegiate Football Performance Award, and receiving a helmet sticker from SEC beat writer for ESPN.com Chris Low, Hartline was named a Davey O’Brien Award Quarterback of the Week Honorable Mention. Hartline was one of eight QBs that received the honorable mention award, while Auburn’s Cam Newton was named the outright quarterback of the week.
The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award® (The O’Brien) is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The O’Brien honors candidates who exemplify Davey O’Brien’s enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics. Tydlacka had a great game for Kentucky on Saturday, averaging 41.5 yards on six punts, with a season-high three punts inside the 20-yard line. Tydlacka kept USC deep in its own territory the entire game as the average starting field position for the Gamecocks on the six punts was their own 19-yard line. Tydlacka’s last punt put USC at its own five-yard line in the fourth quarter. For the year, the Louisville, Ky., native is averaging 45.0 yards per punt – good for third in the SEC – including eight inside the 20-yard line.
Cobb Named Among Paul Hornung’s Most Versatile Performers of the Week: Junior wide receiver, quarterback, punt returner, kickoff returner and holder Randall Cobb has been named as one of the Most Versatile Performers of the Week after gathering 160 all-purpose yards, including the game-winning touchdown, in UK’s upset win over No. 10 South Carolina, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Monday.
Cobb, a native of Alcoa, Tenn., had a great game for Kentucky against USC, tying a career high with eight catches for 63 yards, including the game winning touchdown catch. With the touchdown, Cobb moved into sole possession of first place on Kentucky’s career touchdowns scored list with 33. The junior was solid all around for UK against the Gamecocks, gathering 27 rushing yards, 63 receiving yards and 75 kickoff return yards.
On the season, Cobb is second on the team in rushing with 32 rushes for 195 yards and first on the team in receiving with 40 receptions for 466 yards. The junior is also first on the team in scoring with 58 points and first in punt returns (9.8) and kickoff returns (23.4). More impressive of Cobb’s versatility, is that he has rushed for three touchdowns, thrown for three touchdowns and caught five touchdown passes this season.
Cobb has received a weekly award as a Most Versatile Performer five times this season, more than any other player in the nation.
