LEXINGTON, Ky. — Behind outstanding performance from newcomers Emily Holsopple and Henri Junghänel, the Kentucky rifle team posted a pair of wins, besting Ohio State (4659-4605) and N.C. State (4683-4502), on Saturday at UK’s Barker Hall.
“Today was a great day for our program,” UK assistant coach Stacy Underwood said. “It was the first time this season we had all 12 members competing together. As a coach, it was great to finally see what this team can do when everyone is here operating as a unit. The team is right on track for the goals we have set out. We have a few days next week to further refine our match plan before heading to TCU.”
Kentucky (4-0) rode outstanding air rifle performances from a pair of newcomers, as Junghänel posted a team-best 594 in air rifle, adding a club-high 583 in smallbore. Holsopple finished with a 592 in air rifle and a 581 in smallbore. UK sophomore Heather Greathouse added a 591 in air rifle, while totaling a 576 in smallbore.
Senior Logan Fox finished with a 579 in smallbore and a 581 in air rifle, while Stacy Wheatley totaled a 587 in air rifle. Transfer Ed Ryznar finished with a 572 in smallbore. Ethan Settlemires finished with a 587 in air rifle and a 578 in smallbore, while Katie Fretts – the reigning Great American Rifle Conference Rookie of the Year – totaled a 591 in air rifle.
Kentucky returns to action on Sunday, hosting UT Martin at Barker Hall. Next week, UK will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, for matches against TCU and Nebraska.
