Cat Scratches: UK seeks all-important winning season vs. Pitt
So there is football after all.
After more than a month of waiting and plenty of pre-bowl distractions, Kentucky and Pittsburgh will finally take the field at Legion Field on Saturday at noon ET for the BBVA Compass Bowl.
“We’ve had a really good week of preparation down here in Birmingham,” head coach Joker Phillips said. “We had great workouts at Hoover High School and we’re just ready to put all the preparations behind us and let it show up on the field.” … read full story
Wildcats Complete Final Preparations for BBVA Compass Bowl
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Friday, the Kentucky football team wrapped up final preparations for the BBVA Compass Bowl matchup with the Pittsburgh Panthers.
The Wildcats had a one-hour walk-through to review assignments in the afternoon at Legion Field, including an opportunity to have a team photograph taken in the stands. Following the walk-through, Coach Joker Phillips and UK All-Americans Randall Cobb and Danny Trevathan represented the team at a news conference.
“We’ve had a really good week of preparation down here in Birmingham,” Phillips said. “First of all, we’ve enjoyed the city of Birmingham – hopefully not too much – and we are geared up and ready to play this game. The people here have gone above and beyond in making us feel comfortable and we’ve really enjoyed it. We had great workouts at Hoover High School and we’re just ready to put all the preparations behind us and let it show up on the field.”
The Wildcats will have team and positions meetings Friday night and an early bedtime because of the 11 a.m. CST kickoff on Saturday.
Friday began with a trip to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital to visit patients. A large number of players had signed up to make the trip, but because of space limitations, the hospital allowed only 12 players to go. Players in attendance included wide receiver Brian Adams, wide receiver Aaron Boyd, wide receiver Nik Brazley, cornerback Randall Burden, offensive lineman Marcus Davis, offensive lineman Max Godby, defensive end Jacob Lewellen, wide receiver Chris Matthews, defensive tackle Shane McCord, kicker Craig McIntosh, cornerback Anthony Mosley and punter Ryan Tydlacka.
Both the Pittsburgh and Kentucky teams enjoyed the official bowl Kickoff Luncheon, held at the Sheraton Hotel, before reporting to the stadium for walk-through.
