LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky swimming and diving team has finished its rigorous road trip that included three double-dual meets in just four days, capped off by Saturday’s meet in Chapel Hill, N.C. against North Carolina and Clemson.

The Kentucky women’s swimming and diving team topped Clemson 188-111, but fell to North Carolina 167.50-121.50. The men’s team fell to Clemson 174-121, and to North Carolina 182-111.

“We had some very good swims today to cap off a difficult five-day road trip,” UK head coach Gary Conelly said. “Chatham Penrod and Kayla Sergesketter led the way for the women, and Matt Russell and Reinhardt Strijdom were real standouts on the men’s side, with some solid support from Jonathan Keltner, Colin Faris and Chip Aplin. These three double dual meets were real tests for us and the teams positive performances suggest we are heading in the right direction for our upcoming Southeastern Conference and NCAA competitions.”

Penrod won the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.17, and came in second place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.98. Sergesketter, a senior from Jasper, Ind., came in second place in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events. Senior Lindsey Graessle, a Mason, Ohio, native, came in second place in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. The women’s 400 freestyle relay team tapped in with a time of 3:26.89 to take home first place marks.

On the men’s side, Faris and Aplin finished in second and third place, respectively, in the 50 free. Russell won the 200 breaststroke for the Cats and Travis Green came in second place in the 500 free with a time of 4:37.20. Keltner finished in third place in the 100 butterfly. William Heidler came in second in the 200 individual medley, clocking in with a time of 1:55.20. The men’s 400 free relay team finished in second place with a time of 3:03.69.

The diving scores from the Tennessee Diving Invitational on Jan. 3-5 were used to score Saturday’s meet. Lisa Faulkner won the one-meter board and came in third on the three-meter board for the women. On the men’s side, Greg Ferrucci came in second place on both the one- and three-meter boards.

The Cats will hit the pool again Saturday, Jan. 15 in a dual meet against Alabama at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
