BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — After logging a career-high seven innings with only one run allowed in his second career start on Tuesday, Kentucky southpaw Corey Littrell has been selected Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Littrell tossed seven frames, allowing only three hits and one run, striking out a career-high five on Tuesday in a win over in-state rival Eastern Kentucky. Littrell, a graduate of Trinity High School and the 2010 Louisville Slugger Kentucky High School Player of the Year, threw first-pitch strikes to 17-of-25 hitters faced in the game.

Littrell, a 6-foot-3, 190-pounder, picked up where he left off in his first career start on Feb. 24. In that outing against Eastern Michigan, Littrell carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before allowing back-to-back hits to end his no-hit bid. In his two starts this year, Littrell owns a 2-0 record and a 2.03 ERA.

On the year, Littrell owns a 2-1 record and a 6.32 ERA in four games and the two starts. Littrell has tossed 15.2 innings, allowing 12 hits and striking out 11, with opponents batting at a .211 clip. In his two relief outings this season, Littrell has a 0-1 record and a 30.86 ERA with eight runs allowed in 2.1 innings, inflating his early-season ERA.

A 35th-round selection in the 2010 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals, Littrell was considered the top prospect in the state of Kentucky after going 9-3 with a 1.90 ERA as a senior for Trinity.

Kentucky (9-7) returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Murray State at 4 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
