LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s golf sophomore Megan Moir was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team on Monday, as announced by the league office. The award is the first such honor for Moir.

The SEC sponsors community service teams in all 20 sports. The community service team looks to highlight athletes from the SEC who give back to their community in superior service efforts. The Louisville, Ky., native’s community service efforts include volunteering for the Hope Lodge where she cooked and ate with cancer patients. She also participated in the Walk for the Cure, picked up cans in a neighborhood for the LCA Drive, and packed and delivered for the God’s Pantry Back Pack Program.

Moir has competed in five tournaments for the Cats this year and finished in a tie for 57th at the William K. Warren Irish Invitational. Moir recorded a career-low round of 73 this season during the final round of the Cougar Classic. Moir also finished the Cougar Classic with her season-best 54-hole score of 230.

The Kentucky women’s golf team was selected to compete in the East regional of the 2011 NCAA Women’s Golf Championships. The East regional will mark the Cats’ 16th postseason appearance and their second since the 2000 season.

UK, led by junior Ashlee Rose, sophomores Ashleigh Albrecht, Betsie Johnson and Heather Lott and freshman Liz Breed, will compete in the East regional, held at the LPGA International (6,271 yards, par 72) in Daytona Beach, Fla., from May 5-7.
