LEXINGTON, Ky. — Winners of 10 of its last 11 non-conference games, the Kentucky baseball team returns to action, hosting Indiana on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

The game will be televised live on the Big Blue Sports Network, with Dick Gabriel (play-by-play), MLB Gold Glover Doug Flynn (color) and Ryan Lemond (sideline) calling the action. The telecast can be found on FSN South (Insight-Lexington channel 52) and in Central Kentucky on CWKYT-TV (Insight-Lexington channel 5). The game will also be broadcast live on BBSN (radio), with the Voice of UK Baseball, Neil Price, calling the action. Fans in Central Kentucky can hear the game live on WLAP 630-AM, in Louisville on WKJK 1080-AM and online at UKathletics.com.

UK will send sophomore southpaw Taylor Rogers (2-6, 5.40 ERA) to the mound to face off with Indiana freshman lefty Brian Korte (2-3, 4.28 ERA). The start will be the first midweek start of the career for Rogers, who owns 25 career weekend starts entering Tuesday. In the series finale with Vanderbilt, Rogers made his first career relief outing, getting the lone out he was tasked with. On the year, Rogers has made 11 weekend starts, tossing 63.1 innings, allowing 80 hits and 14 walks, striking out 44.  Korte has appeared in 10 games and made eight starts, tossing 40 innings, allowing 40 hits and nine walks, striking out 17.

The Wildcats completed a three-game weekend with a series against the No. 1 Vanderbilt Commodores, opening the series with a 2-0 win before falling in games on Saturday and Sunday with the Dores claiming the hard-fought series. UK will return to action on Tuesday, hosting Indiana, before welcoming Georgia to Cliff Hagan Stadium for a three-game series.

Kentucky (21-27, 5-19 Southeastern Conference) rode the hot hand of pitching sensation Alex Meyer in the series opener vs. Vanderbilt. The 6-foot-9, 220-pounder tossed his second complete-game shutout of the year and his league-leading fourth complete-game of the season in a 2-0 blanking of the red-hot Dores. Meyer allowed only five singles in the game and one walk, lifting UK to its first win over a No. 1-ranked foe since the 2007 season. In the win, UK got a solo homer from Thomas McCarthy and added an insurance run from Braden Kapteyn for the difference. On Monday, Meyer was named SEC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year by the league office. 

In the next two games of the series, Vanderbilt posted wins to clinch the three-game set. In the Saturday game, Vandy rode the strong left-handed arm of 2010 Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Year Grayson Garvin, a dynamic 6-foot-6 junior, to a 10-3 win to even the series. In the finale, UK owned a 3-2 lead before committing an error in the seventh inning to even up the game. VU then plated three runs on five consecutive two-out hits in the top of the ninth inning to secure the series for a 6-3 win.

UK has been led throughout the year offensively by junior Chad Wright, who has hit .330 with 12 doubles, two triples, five homers and 31 RBI, stealing 14 bases. McCarthy owns a .324 mark after a splendid weekend, including an SEC-leading 17 doubles, five homers and 25 RBI. Senior shortstop Taylor Black has hit .310 with 14 doubles, two triples, two homers and 31 RBI, stealing 10 bags. Kapteyn had added a .302 mark with nine doubles, six homers and a club-best 39 RBI. UK’s catching tandem of Michael Williams and Luke Maile have combined for 13 homers and 50 RBI. In the bullpen, lefty Alex Phillips (1-2, 2.51 ERA) has appeared in a team-high 23 games with only one walk in 28.2 innings. Freshman Trevor Gott (2-4, 2.88 ERA) owns two saves in 25 innings, striking out 31.

Indiana (27-20, 8-10 Big Ten) has hit .284 as a team with 89 doubles, 21 homers and 59 stolen bases. On the mound, IU has totaled a 3.78 ERA as a club, with 186 walks and 303 strikeouts in 430.2 innings, fielding .969 as a club.

The Hoosiers have been led offensively by All-America outfielder Alex Dickerson, who paces the club with a .361 average, adding nine doubles, six homers and 42 RBI. Dustin DeMuth has hit .358 with 11 doubles and 18 RBI, while Micah Johnson has added a .331 mark with one homer, 21 RBI and 19 stolen bases. Wes Wilson owns a .305 mark with five homers and 23 RBI. In the bullpen, Ryan Halstead (3-1, 1.73 ERA) leads the team with eight saves in 26 innings, walking seven and striking out 17. Chad Martin (2-4, 3.23 ERA) has two saves in 64 innings, while Matt Carr (2-1, 3.82 ERA) leads the team with 21 appearances.

UK leads the series, 16-15, with the series tied at 8-8 in games played in Lexington. The Wildcats have won two of the last three games in the series.

In the last meeting between the two teams, Indiana posted a wild, walk-off win in Bloomington in 2010, 18-17. In a game that saw both teams combined for 35 total runs, 41 hits and 25 runners left on base, IU escaped with the win. UK opened up the game with 14 runs scored over the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, taking a 16-8 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning. The Hoosiers mounted a rally, plating five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, then got three runs in the bottom of the ninth of UK closer Matt Little to force extra innings. UK rallied after losing the lead in the ninth with a go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning to take a 17-16 lead into the bottom half of the inning. UK had used six pitchers entering the frame and turned to lightly used junior college righty Kyle Jackson for his first outing since allowing three runs on three hits without getting an out in a loss at WKU. Jackson almost got the save but pinch hitter Michael Earlier ripped a two-out, two-run double off the wall in leftfield for the walk-off win. UK had a breakout game in the contest offensively, with Lance Ray posting two homers, including one that was part of three consecutive homers hit in the seventh inning. Ray finished with five RBI and three runs, drawing two walks and finishing a single shy of the cycle. UK also got homers from Kapteyn and Marcus Nidiffer and three walks from Gunner Glad. Nidiffer finished with five hits and three RBI, while Neiko Johnson added two hits and three RBI.

UK will utilize three lots: the C8 lot behind Shively Sports Center, the R lot down the first base line and brand-new Parking Structure 7 on the corner of Complex Drive and Jerry Claiborne Way. Both parking lots are only steps away from Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Fans who park in the PS7 lot will be given a parking value card to exit the structure free of charge. Value cards should be picked up at the baseball ticket booth prior to the fifth inning.
