LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky men’s tennis senior Alex Musialek and sophomore Tom Jomby earned several ATP World Tour points after advancing through qualifying and into the main draw of the 10émes Internationaux de Tennis de Blois in Blois, France.
Musialek, who was the No. 8 seed in qualifying, started the three-round qualifying event with a first-round bye before taking down Lofo Ramiaramanan of South Africa 6-1, 6-3 in the second round. Musialek defeated Mick Lescure of France, who was the No. 10 seed in qualifying, to punch his ticket to the main draw.
The native of Dax, France, faced Fabrice Martin of France in the opening round of the main draw, defeating the world’s 399th-ranked player in straight sets 7-5, 6-3. Musialek fell 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the event to sixth-seeded and eventual champion Martin Alund of Argentina. Alund, who is currently ranked No. 306 in the world, has been ranked as high as No. 214 during his career. The Kentucky senior is currently ranked 1245th in the ATP World Tour rankings.
Jomby also had a successful run in the event, advancing through all three rounds of qualifying and winning his first round match in the main draw. The native of Nantes, France, started his run with a win over France’s Gregoire Barrere 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 in the first round of qualifying before taking down fifth-seeded Guillermo Bujniewicz of Argentina in the second round 6-3, 6-2. Jomby sealed his spot in the main draw by defeating Vincent D’Hoir of France in the qualifying final.
In the main draw, Jomby faced No. 924 Baptiste Bayet in the first round, taking down the fellow Frenchman 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Jomby dropped out of the main draw in the second round when fourth-seeded Florian Reynet of France won in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Reynet is currently ranked 331st in the world and has been ranked as high as 273rd.
Musialek and Jomby both had very good seasons for Kentucky this spring with Musialek earning All-Southeastern Conference second-team honors and Jomby named to the freshman All-SEC team. Musialek finished the 2010-11 season at 28-16, while Jomby ended his freshman campaign 14-9.
